Friday night's game vs the #3 ranked U of Saskatchewan Huskies unfortunately was typical of our season. Although our guys battled hard throughout the course of the game we were unable to get all 3 phases of the game working properly on the same night.

On Friday night we lost a hard fought battle to Simon Fraser. Once again our guys demonstrated a ton of character and heart by coming back from a 14 point deficit to get within five yards of tying the game up. Unfortunately we lacked the urgency and focus to play four full quarters of football.

We lost a hard fought contest against the #4 ranked Calgary Dinos. The Dinos were almost at full strength for the first time all years, with all stars like Anthony Woodson, Anthony Parker, Chris Folk, and Andre Bonaventure returning to the starting line up.

Decimated by injuries, we took on what I consider to be the top team in Canada West, in the Regina Rams. They are imposing team with a massive front 7 defensively and one of the top QB n the country. All week I preached to our men, about attitude, effort and determination and I sincerely feel we got the best out of the 50 players who dressed.

This weekend's loss vs Manitoba was very disappointing. We did not come out with the hunger, attitude or urgency that we needed to in order to beat a very motivated University of Manitoba Bison team.

The win on Friday night in Saskatoon was a huge one for our guys. Since January I sincerely believe that the majority of our players have bought into the way culture and atmosphere our coaching staff have been trying to foster, but there is nothing like a win to cement that belief.

Week 1 was an important week for this young team, we had a very good week of practice leading into the home opener. I felt we were well prepared for what Alberta did and we were just starting to get healthy after a long training camp.

The 2010 UBC Thunderbird Defence will be a good mix of youth and experience. We have good veteran leadership at each position who are joined by promising newcomers. It is sure to be a productive and exciting season on the "Point".
